When you need to transport certain materials through an industrial facility, you may rely on ductwork. Depending on the nature of the material conveyed, you may have to pay attention to noise, vibration and other issues if you want to avoid problems. One of the best ways to regulate this process is by introducing and fitting additional features.

Configuring Your Systems

For a ducting system to work effectively and move the materials from one point to another, you need some form of propulsion. This may involve a large industrial fan or a pump of some kind, but by their very nature, such devices can generate vibration.

Handling Vibration

Vibration can be annoying, but it can also be troublesome. It may create a lot of noise which could permeate through the workplace and lead to issues with your personnel. You may need to supply these workers with ear protection so that you do not run into problems with the safety executive and ensure they are as productive as possible.

Dealing with Knock-On Effects

Still, the vibration may lead to failure if it is not addressed. It can cause parts of the ductwork to separate, or cracks may develop along the way. This could lead to downtime or allow the transported material to escape. This could be costly or potentially dangerous, depending on the nature of the material in question.

Installing Vibration Dampers

To address these issues, consider installing vibration dampers. They are made from flexible fabric or rubberised material and specifically designed to absorb as much of the vibration as possible. When you fit them in the right place and in sufficient numbers, you may find that the amount of vibration that gets through to the ductwork is negligible. This will go a long way to ensuring that your system works correctly and you do not lose any of the transported material. You may also keep your workers happy and avoid running into any problems with the authorities.

Adding Silencers

You may also want to add some silencers to the system. They are effective lengths of pipe enclosed by several layers of insulation, allowing some of the resonation to be absorbed before it can pass down the system.

Fitting Your Equipment

So, if you want to upgrade your ducting system to be more efficient and compliant, talk with your industrial equipment supplier. Ask them about vibration dampers and silencers, so you can get them fitted as soon as possible.

About Me
Industrial equipment supply chain learning curve

I have always worked in the supply chain department, but since moving to an industrial equipment supplier, I've been on a steep learning curve. We have so many pieces with multiple names or similar names, and I need to be able to work out which pieces can be substituted in an emergency and which pieces are not similar. It's been tricky for me to get my head around, so I started this blog to discuss some of the information I've picked up in this role, which might be useful for someone else just starting out in an industrial equipment supply role.
